Eugene Challengers beat Corvallis in American Legion super regional opener

That coveted “W” stood as much for “whew” as it did “win” to the Eugene Challengers on Friday night. After they’d built an eight-run lead behind the solid starting pitching of Robby Ahlstrom, it took reliever Michael Moore’s strikeout with the bases loaded in the ninth to preserve a 10-7 victory over the Corvallis Marketmen in the first game of their American League state super regional at Swede Johnson Stadium. Eugene (20-20) can take the best-of-three series when the teams meet at 12:30 p.m.
